Although we live in a semi rural location and I am sure that we probably have plenty of bats living in the trees of the bridleway behind the property, thankfully I have never seen sight nor sound of them personally and if I did, you would see me heading for the bright lights of the town! The closest personal contact I really ever want with them, is behind the glass screen, in a zoo or wildlife park.
Although we did spend a week long holiday staying at a castle in Scotland, which had been converted into a hotel. We stayed in the ‘haunted’ room in the castle keep and couldn’t understand what many of the sounds were emanating from the area above our room. Suddenly, at dinner one evening, the place filled up with people dressed in outdoor walking gear and sporting night vision goggles, cameras and various metering equipment. We then discovered that the crowds were all members of a Bat Convention, who carried out an annual count of the famous and protected bat colony in the castle’s belfry …. You guessed it! Right above our room!
I guess I am not really a country girl at heart. Give me all the trappings of civilisation any day!
You seem quite blase about the entire experience, although I am sure the treatment was no fun at the time. I am pleased that you have suffered no ill effects from your sudden eye wash, although a ‘medicinal’ shot of pee needs to be avoided at all costs!
